In this 6-week course we will help you with a step-by-step approach to master the butterfly. It is a hard stroke to just try all at once, so we break it down into easy steps, to put it all together again at the end of the course. Swimming butterfly cannot be done on pure strength, the technique of the kick and pull and the timing are crucial when learning how to fly.
What to expect?
This course is 6 weeks with a total of 12 workouts, 2 each week. We will focus on the butterfly stroke by using specific drills to break it down and learn how to fly. We will work on the kick, pull, timing and breathing.
How does it work?
Each week you follow 2 instruction videos with technique exercises that will help you with specific elements of the butterfly. This is a hard stroke to master, so we break it down into pieces. In the first three weeks we focus on the butterfly kick, in different forms. The kick is the foundation of a good butterfly, so it is crucial to get the hang of it. In the fourth week we will work on the pull-through. In the fifth week we combine the kick and pull, and work on the timing of your butterfly, including your breath. In the last week we combine it all with the goal to fly – fly – fly!
After watching an instruction video, you can practice this exercise in a pool near you. When you have completed the exercise, you can finish your swim with a body conditioning workout that is included in every step. This way you improve your technique, endurance and strength all in one workout.
Training Equipment: We advise you to use the following training equipment: a kick board and pull buoy (both floating devices), a snorkel and fins.

I started with SwimGym coaching as a complete novice. To be honest, I barely floated. Within weeks my skills improved and within months I made my way into the mid-level and ultimately to the pro’s. The perfect combination of technique training and a total body workout.
I started with SwimGym training courses after I got my swimming diploma, so I was a real novice. In a year and a half, I have advanced to the mid-level, completed a 1500m open water race and realised my dream of learning how to kitesurf, all thanks to the swimming foundation laid by SwimGym.
