Dear Mr. Davidson:
The evaluation phase is now complete for your product identified as Generator, Pool, Current "Swim Gym "SG-5".
We have compiled a report based on evaluation findings submitted to us from the VA medical Center participant(s). A summarization of this report is described as follows:
GENERATOR, POOL CURRENT "Swim Gym SG-5" - "Swim Gym" is a portable impeller- pump system for swimming pools capable of generating a flowing current which allows a swimmer to workout in place. The continuous, non-turbulent flow of water in excess of 2500 gallons per minute, provides varied degrees of resistance for a variety of exercises from all out wind sprints to aerobically beneficial steady swimming without doing laps. No plumbing or modification of the pool or deck is required for installation and the electrical requirements are well within any existing pool service so that hookup should be easily accomplished by any licensed electrician. Manufacturer’s List Price - $3,450.00. Source - Swim Gym, Inc. Los Angeles, Ca. Telephone No. - 213/653-7347. Project No. - TEE-87-041.
FINDINGS - The "Swim Gym SG-5" can be installed in a short period of time and required little space. The unit can be painted to blend in with any decor. A regular swimming pool is immediately converted into a large "whirlpool" creating a water moving exercise modality. The five horsepower motor produces adequate amounts of water movement and the thrust is mildly quick. Interaction mode speeds (soft, medium, hard) are not attainable. A non-environmental effect is provided for some patients, altering their opinion of exercise, therefore, creating a non-stereotype effect on a structured program. Power consumption equates to 80 cents per hour. Pool maintenance is reduced as less time is needed in vacuuming the pool. Maintenance requirements are minimal.
